Friday will bring relatively cool but sunny weather to Latvia. However, residents of many regions will have to contend with strong winds, and brief showers and thunderstorms are possible in Latgale and Vidzeme.
The last working day of calendar spring in Latvia will be influenced by strong northern and northwestern winds. According to meteorologists' forecasts, gusts in most regions of the country will reach 13–18 meters per second.
Calmer weather is expected only in the western part of Kurzeme, where the wind will be weaker.
The sky over the country will be partly cloudy. The most unstable weather is forecasted in Latgale and Vidzeme, where brief showers will occur in places, and thunderstorms are possible in some areas.
By evening, the area of precipitation will expand and affect most of the eastern regions of the country.
Daytime temperatures will range from +13 to +18 degrees, which corresponds to the climatic norm for the end of May.
In Riga, the day promises to be mostly dry and sunny. Despite the lack of rain, residents will have to contend with strong winds — gusts of northern and northwestern winds may reach 18 meters per second.
Temperatures in the capital will vary: from +13 degrees in the northern districts of the city to +16 degrees in the south.
Currently, two atmospheric processes are simultaneously influencing the weather in Latvia. A high-pressure area persists over most of Europe, while a cyclone located over Russian territory continues to affect the weather from the east.
Another feature of the day is the increased level of ultraviolet radiation. The sun will be most active from 12:00 to 15:00, so specialists recommend not to forget about skin and eye protection even despite the relatively cool weather.
Friday will be a typical transitional day between spring and summer — with sunshine, a cool wind, and local rains in the eastern part of the country.
