On Sunday, May 31, the Toyota bicycle marathon will take place in Riga, which will result in extensive traffic restrictions in the city, reports the External Communications Department of the Riga City Council.
Restrictions will begin to be enforced on Saturday, May 30. From 17:00, stopping and parking of vehicles will be prohibited on both sides of November 11th Embankment on the section from the Stone Bridge to Muitu Street, as well as on the parallel street from the Old Riga side - between Bishop and Polu Streets. The restrictions will remain in effect until 19:30 on Sunday.
At the same time, restrictions on stopping and parking will come into force on Balasta Dambis and Kugu Street from the side of the Daugava. These will be in effect until 17:00 on Sunday.
On Sunday, from 11:00 to 12:00, traffic will be closed on the Stone Bridge towards Pardaugava, as well as on Kugu, Trijadibas, Rankya Dambis, Balasta Dambis streets and on the Vanšu Bridge. Two-way traffic will be organized on the opposite lane of Rankya Dambis, and public transport will operate in the left lane on the Vanšu Bridge.
From 12:30 to 16:15, traffic will be closed on November 11th Embankment and General Radzins' Embankment towards Krasta Street - from the Stone Bridge to the Southern Bridge. Additionally, from 12:30 to 16:30, traffic will be closed on the Southern Bridge towards Pardaugava - from the exit from Krasta Street to Bauskas Street.
From 12:30 to 17:00, restrictions will also affect Bauskas and Mukusalas Streets, the interchange under the Island Bridge, the tunnel under the Stone Bridge, Kugu and Trijadibas Streets, Rankya Dambis, Balasta Dambis, and the Vanšu Bridge.
On the weekend, May 30 and 31, traffic lights will be turned off on November 11th Embankment. Also, from Saturday evening until Sunday evening, parking for electric scooters and other micromobility vehicles will be closed.
Due to the restrictions, changes in public transport routes and schedules are expected.
