The Rezekne municipality has approved a new action procedure in case of threats in the airspace. According to the algorithm, schools and childcare institutions will be able to resume operations just one hour after the official announcement of the end of the threat.

Against the backdrop of regular alerts about possible drones in Latgale, the Rezekne municipality has developed its own action algorithm for schools and municipal institutions. The new procedure stipulates that after an official announcement of the end of the threat, educational institutions must resume operations within an hour.

The municipality emphasizes that such decisions are necessary to avoid chaos and prolonged disruption of everyday life in the city. According to the authorities, in matters of security, one cannot wait solely for instructions from the state level — especially in situations where threats may arise suddenly.

The development of the new algorithm began after the events of May 7, when two drones crashed into a fuel depot in Rezekne.

Currently, the document outlines the actions for schools and municipal institutions — from internal communication to specific steps after receiving an orange alert from the cellular notification system.

Importantly, the authorities are trying to find a balance between security requirements and the need to maintain the normal operation of schools and the city.

According to the new procedure, after the "Threat is over" signal, children will be able to return to classes, and parents to work, without prolonged uncertainty.

The municipality believes that this will help reduce tension among residents, which has arisen after a series of alerts in recent days. Additionally, the city plans to start a series of informational seminars for residents. These will explain how to act in the event of a possible aerial threat, what the "two walls principle" means, and how the civil defense system works.

Authorities also urge residents to rely only on official information and to remain calm.

In recent days, Rezekne and other areas of Latgale have repeatedly received warnings about a possible threat to airspace. These messages have already led to train stoppages, the postponement of school exams, and disruptions in the operation of institutions.

Amid new risks, municipalities are increasingly beginning to develop their own action scenarios, without waiting for unified decisions at the state level.
