The ranks of those inflating pre-war hysteria have been joined by former Defense Minister Artis Pabriks.
He stated to La.lv that the Latvian army must be ready at any moment to repel an aggressor. He provided an argument for why Russia might attack:
“Russia has adopted a law under which its army can protect its citizens in other countries, which means possible military intervention in states where they decide to take action, because now they will have some 'legal' basis to justify their actions.
Of course, one can be ironic here, saying that we need to evacuate all Russian citizens from Latvia by August, which, of course, would also be good, but it is important to understand that this is one of the ways in which Russia is preparing.”
Russia adopted a new law a few days ago, and Pabriks was the first to voice, albeit supposedly with a hint of irony, the idea of evacuating all Russian citizens who have not yet been evacuated. Now we must wait for a strategist who will propose evacuating the rest of the Russians. After all, the Kremlin could easily refer to the infringement of the rights of Russian speakers in the Baltic states...
