Where to Relax During the Easter Holidays

On the occasion of Easter, Catholics in Latvia are looking forward to long weekends filled with concerts, festivities, swings, performances by ethnic groups, and egg relays. Let's consider a few examples from the programs offered by different cities and regions.

Riga

A large festive program is expected in Riga — with concerts, swings, workshops, and entertainment for children and adults. The events are free.

April 5, Good Friday

  • The Rīga orchestra will perform at St. John's Church at 17:00.

  • Pianist Andrei Osokin and mezzo-soprano Ieva Parša will present a program at the Ziemeļblāzma cultural palace.

Free invitations are required for both concerts, which can be obtained at Biļešu paradīze.

April 5, Sunday

  • In Uzvaras Park from 11:00 to 17:00, guests can enjoy a stage, ten Easter swings, egg painting, workshops, games, and performances by artists, concluding with a concert by Raxtu Raxti.

  • The Imanta cultural center will host the Pavasara sasaukšanās event from 11:00 to 17:00, featuring swings, egg fights, games, a children's play, and a concert by the ethnic group Ogas.

April 6, Monday

  • At the Great Stage in Mežaparks from 12:00 to 16:00, there will be egg relays, egg painting, workshops, sports warm-ups, swings, and a musical program.

  • In Ziemeļblāzma, children and parents can enjoy games, as well as a concert by the Rīga orchestra and Daumants Kalniņš (Free invitations for the concert are available from March 30 at "Biļešu paradīze").

April 5 and 6

Easter swings will be available throughout Riga — they will appear in Dome Square, Līvu Square, Town Hall Square, Bastion Hill, as well as at the Imanta and Ziemeļblāzma cultural centers.

Valmiera Region

A program for Easter has also been prepared in the Valmiera region. The main festive events will take place on April 5 and 6 in Valmiera and other localities in the region.

April 5

A folk dance concert will be held at the Valmiera Culture Center.

April 6

From 11:00 to 15:00, a celebration "In the Footsteps of the Hare" will take place in the city center with egg rolling, games, workshops, face painting, music, and a "Hare Run" for children.

Festive events with games, swings, egg rolling, concerts, and workshops will also take place in Berzaine, Breguli, Burtiniek, Dikļi, Eveli, Koceni, Matīši, Mazsalaca, Murmuiza, Naujen, Ramata, Renceni, Ruijiena, Seli, Trikata, Vaida and Vecate.

From March 20 to April 26

An orientation game "Catch the Hare in the Manor" is taking place in various manors of the Valmiera region. Participants need to search for QR codes, complete tasks, and learn stories about local manors. Three winners will receive prizes.

More detailed information about the events is available here.

Salaspils Region

The main events will take place on Dole Island — with workshops, egg painting, games, an Easter bunny hunt, and the chance to win prizes.

April 5

From 11:00 to 15:00, a family Easter program will be held at the Dole estate park: egg painting, games, and creative workshops for children.

The musical program and folk games will be provided by a folklore group from Tome. Visitors are invited to bring their decorated eggs, as an exhibition of them will also take place during the event.

From April 2 to 6

A "Easter Bunny Hunt" competition will be held on Dole Island. Twelve colorful Easter bunnies will be placed on the island for participants to find and answer questions. The route is approximately 8–11 kilometers long, which can be walked or cycled, starting from any point.

On Dole Island, near the Daugava Museum, a shop and terrace Doles tēju will also be open during the Easter days, where visitors can buy and try drinks and snacks.

Daugavpils

April 6

At the House of Unity, from 14:00 to 16:00, participants can expect an extensive program for the whole family.

Folk group Svātra, folk ensemble Dzīsme, and guest performers – the Augusti choir will perform for visitors.

In the mobile play park, everyone can find the most interesting Easter entertainment, as well as traditional festive games for both children and adults.

In case of bad weather, the event will be moved to the concert hall of the House of Unity.

When Different Confessions Celebrate Easter

In 2026, Easter will be celebrated on different days by Catholics and Orthodox Christians: Catholic Easter — April 5, and Orthodox Easter — April 12.

Catholics, Protestants, and the Armenian Apostolic Church celebrate the holiday a week earlier, while the Orthodox Church celebrates the Resurrection of Christ on the second Sunday of April.

In 2026, Easter for Orthodox Christians and Greek Catholics (PCA and UCC) in Ukraine also falls on April 12.
