We have learned to spend taxpayers' money excellently.
Janis Hermanis, an expert from the Latvian Confederation of Employers, pointed out two indicators based on data from the European Union's statistical agency Eurostat.
Thus, as of the end of 2025, we lag behind both Lithuania and Estonia in direct foreign investments. While Lithuania's volume of direct foreign investments amounted to €43.8 billion and Estonia's to €36.5 billion, Latvia has only €27.1 billion.
However, in terms of government expenditures (read - procurement), Latvia is ahead of its Baltic neighbors: Latvia's public expenditures account for 23% of GDP, Estonia's for 21.9%, and Lithuania's for 20%.
It would be better if everything were the other way around: if we lagged in expenditures but surpassed everyone in the volume of attracted foreign investments.
