In Latvia, on the night of Sunday, March 29, at 3:00 AM, the transition to daylight saving time will occur — the clock hands will be set forward by one hour, according to previously published information from the Ministry of Economics, LETA reports.

The transition to daylight saving time and back in Latvia is regulated by the Cabinet of Ministers' regulations from October 26, 2010, "On the Transition to Daylight Saving Time." In turn, in the European Union, the transition to daylight saving time is established by the directive of the European Parliament and Council from January 19, 2001, which defines uniform dates for the start and end of daylight saving time for all EU countries.

Although discussions have been held at the EU level about abolishing the clock change, a unified decision has not yet been made, as many states believe that a comprehensive impact assessment, including economic and other aspects, is necessary to abandon the seasonal time change. As a result, the previous procedure established by the Cabinet of Ministers' regulations, which complies with the requirements of the EU directive, is still in effect in Latvia.

Daylight saving time was first introduced in Latvia in 1981. Since 1997, it has been in effect from the last Sunday in March to the last Sunday in October.
