The Academy of Arts Studies the Heritage of Diploma Works from the Soviet Period

The Latvian Academy of Arts (LAAH) continues its research on the archive of diploma works, focusing on graduate works in ceramics, glass, textiles, and interior design created during the Soviet period, the LETA agency was informed by the university.

The digital collection includes works created between 1949 and 1991. Over two years of research, 154 works on ceramics, 41 on glass, 241 on interior design, and 160 on textiles have been documented, and the archive continues to grow.

The results of the research are presented in the exhibition "Diploma Work is a Work of Art / Archive Research / 1949–1991 / Ceramics / Glass / Textiles / Interior," which will be open from March 3 to March 13 at the LAAH "Duo" exhibition hall on Krondvalda Boulevard, 4.

During the exhibition, public lectures and discussions are planned. On March 5, researchers from Lithuania and Estonia will share their experiences, and on March 12, Andris Teikmanis will give a lecture on higher art education during the Soviet period, followed by a discussion.

The research is part of a broader scientific project on the interrelationship between ethnology and art during the Soviet period in Latvia.
