Employers Can Apply for Summer Employment for Schoolchildren

Starting today, the State Employment Agency (NVA) begins accepting applications from employers for the implementation of the summer employment program for schoolchildren in 2026, the NVA reported to the LETA agency.

Employers must submit their applications by March 15 in digital format — through the CV and Job Portal NVA, filling out a questionnaire with information about the vacancies offered to schoolchildren.

Pavel Belisov, the director of the NVA Employment Measures Department, explained that the summer employment program for schoolchildren allows employers to attract additional labor with government support during the summer period, while young people gain valuable work experience, develop skills, and become familiar with the work environment.

Belisov urges not to postpone the submission of applications until the last moment, as they will be considered in the order of receipt, and the demand for government co-financed jobs may exceed the available budget of the program.

The applications submitted by employers and their compliance with the program conditions will be evaluated by the NVA active employment measures selection committee, which will make a decision on approval or rejection.

Employers will be notified of the decision electronically through the official email address of the enterprise. In the case of a positive decision, the NVA will propose to conclude a contract for the creation of approved jobs.

The decision on conducting the second stage of application acceptance (preliminarily scheduled from March 30 to April 15) will be made after the completion of the first stage, taking into account demand and available funding.

The summer employment program for schoolchildren will be implemented from June 1 to August 31.

An employer who hires a schoolchild with the support of the NVA will receive a subsidy of 50% of the established minimum monthly wage in the country. If a schoolchild with a disability is employed, the subsidy will amount to 100% of the minimum monthly wage. The NVA will cover the mandatory medical examination (if required by law), insure the schoolchild against workplace accidents, and provide a subsidy for the payment of a mentor.

The employer is obligated to ensure a salary supplement, pay taxes, and compensate for unused vacation.

The monthly salary of a schoolchild in full employment must be no less than the established minimum wage in the country — 780 euros before tax.

The program includes schoolchildren aged 15 to 20 who are studying in general, special, or vocational educational institutions. The duration of work is from one to two months. The employer can negotiate work with a specific schoolchild.

The NVA reminds that schoolchildren are prohibited from being engaged in work related to increased risks to their safety, health, moral development, or well-being.

In 2025, the program involved 830 employers who offered 7,173 jobs across 254 professions. The event involved 11,127 young people.
