Latvia will once again be enveloped by frosts down to -30 degrees. Considering the high humidity and winds in many regions of the country, this may feel like unbearable cold. Latvians on social media advise taking care of feeding birds and rescuing street animals, which may die from such frosts.
On the night of Tuesday and in the morning, the air temperature in some places in Latvia will drop to -25...-30 degrees, with the lowest temperatures expected in the eastern part of the country, meteorologists predict.
In most parts of the country, the air will cool to -15...-25 degrees, while in some coastal areas it will be slightly warmer. With light winds in some areas, mainly in the northeast, fog and hoarfrost will form.
Tuesday will be mostly sunny, with no precipitation expected. The temperature will rise to -5...-11 degrees with light to moderate eastern and southeastern winds.
In Riga, sunny weather is expected on Tuesday, with no precipitation. At night, with a light southeast wind, the air temperature will drop to -17 degrees, and in the suburbs to -22 degrees. During the day, the wind will blow from weak to moderate from the east and southeast, and the air temperature will rise to -7 degrees.
According to the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre, the lowest air temperature on Sunday morning was -30.3 degrees in Stalģene, and on Monday morning the thermometer at the Daugavpils observation station dropped to -30.5 degrees.
According to current forecasts, frosts down to -30 degrees are not expected again this winter, and the weather will become warmer and more changeable, with periodic precipitation, thaws, and gusty winds.
