A strong snowstorm is expected in Latvia on Friday and during the night into Saturday, according to the latest forecasts from meteorologists, writes LETA.
In the evening on Wednesday and during the night into Thursday, there will be continuous snowfall in Selia and Latgale, but during the day on Thursday, significant precipitation is not expected in Latvia. In the southern part of Latgale, the air temperature will rise to zero.
On Friday, with the strengthening of the eastern and northeastern winds, it will snow. A vast area of precipitation will cross Latvia from the southwest, with light snowfall turning into a heavy snowstorm; by Saturday, 10–20 centimeters of snow may fall in most areas. In some places, mainly in the southeastern part of Latvia, rain and ice are also expected.
Wind gusts are expected to increase to 10–15 meters per second on Friday, reaching up to 20 meters per second on the Kurzeme coast at the Gulf of Riga. Starting from Friday, some rural roads may become impassable due to the snowstorm. The wind will weaken on Saturday.
Most likely, a brief thaw will only affect the southeastern part of the country. On Sunday, it will get colder, and during the night into Monday, the temperature may drop below -25 degrees in some areas. Temperature fluctuations and precipitation are also possible next week.
