Following reports of inadequate quality of services provided to patients by traumatologists, the traumatology department at the Jekabpils Regional Hospital has been suspended.
Two traumatologists have been suspended from work during an investigation, reports Latvian Television. This means that patients with injuries are not being admitted to the Jekabpils Regional Hospital, and they have to seek medical assistance in hospitals in other cities.
The chairman of the board of the Jekabpils Regional Hospital, Ervins Keishs, confirmed to Latvian Television that upon reviewing the mentioned cases, it initially appears that the assistance provided to patients was indeed of poor quality.
"If we cannot provide services, then we must temporarily cease their provision," acknowledged Keishs.
He emphasized that the outpatient services of traumatologists will continue to be provided by the hospital, while the inpatient traumatology department is being used to treat other patients.
Injured patients will currently be treated in hospitals in Daugavpils or Rezekne, which are at least 90 kilometers away from Jekabpils.
