A viewer of the Bez Tabu program (TV3), Agneta, invited the show to visit the Rīga neighborhood of Dreiliņi, where an abandoned car has been standing at the entrance to the kindergarten for many years.
Residents point out that the police have been repeatedly informed about the abandoned vehicle, but no real action has been taken over the years, writes tv3.lv.
"I want to inform you about a car that has been at the kindergarten in Dreiliņi for a very long time. This car has been there for countless winters and summers! Could you please find out who it belongs to so that this space can be freed up for someone who really needs it? Thank you!" - wrote Agneta.
Journalists confirmed that the car has been without a valid technical inspection since November 2023. According to information from the CSDD database, the vehicle has been removed from the register.
"This entry means that the vehicle has not been in use for three years. It has not undergone a technical inspection for three years, so the car is automatically removed from the register," explained Martiņš Malmeisters, a representative of the Road Traffic Safety Directorate.
The Rīga Municipal Police reported that the first complaints about this vehicle were received in 2024, but the decision to send a warning to the car owner was made only at the end of January this year. Now the owner must move the car by Valentine's Day.
"We have been dealing with the removal of vehicles for a very long time. These decisions have been challenged in court, so we take judicial practice into account. A police officer has the right to move a vehicle mainly from land owned by the state or municipality. In this case, the car is on a plot owned by a legal entity. The vehicle is parked correctly, so we did not initiate a case for long-term abandonment of the car on the road. On January 30, after receiving a repeat call, the police officer decided to issue a warning about the car being left on the road for a long time," explained Juris Inķins, a representative of the Rīga Municipal Police.
Last year, Rīga police moved 290 cars, and this year – eight.
