In Latvia, 71% of residents faced attempts of phone fraud last year, representatives of a commercial bank reported to the LETA agency, citing a survey.
Fraudulent phone calls were the most common type of fraud encountered by most residents in the past year. At the same time, a third, or 33%, of respondents indicated that they had faced attempts of fraud via email, while 23% encountered fraudulent SMS messages.
Relatively less frequently — in 12% of cases — residents faced fraud on social media platforms, and in 8% of cases — misleading advertising online. Although false investment offers remain one of the common types of fraud, only 10% noted that they had encountered such deception. At the same time, 17% of residents admit that they did not face fraud last year.
The survey data also indicate that residents of any age encounter attempts of fraud, and the rates do not significantly differ between age groups. For example, the respondents aged 50 to 59 and those aged 30 to 39 (74%) most frequently encountered phone fraud.
The survey was conducted in November 2025 in collaboration with the research agency Norstat. A total of 1,004 respondents aged 18 to 74 were surveyed in Latvia.
