During the consideration of the Plan for the Development of a Cohesive and Civically Active Society in the Saeima, unpleasant facts emerged.
It turned out that sometimes all integration efforts backfire.
As the concerned deputy Anna Rancāne (“New Unity”) reported at the Saeima commission, a group of journalists from France recently arrived in Latvia to visit the region "where a potential invasion from the East is possible."
And so, in the glorious Zilupe, representatives of the media from the only nuclear power in the European Union "were shocked that they were greeted by few people, and predominantly these people, the ones they met, spoke only Russian."
– And these people said that nothing in their lives would change if this invasion from Russia, God forbid, were to happen. Well, this does not indicate the creation of a united and cohesive society, – A. Rancāne reflected. … I’ll tell you more, Kundzē. They should have come to us in Purči with their French microphone. They would have heard even more!
