Weather with Surprises: Dangerous Ice Possible Next Week

Next week, weather conditions in Latvia will be determined by cyclones, so occasional snowfalls are expected, as well as possible ice — rain turning into ice, according to the latest weather forecasts, reports LETA.

On Saturday, January 24, there will be many clouds with light snow in some areas. On Sunday, predominantly sunny weather is expected, with frost intensifying — in some places, especially in the eastern part of the country, the temperature will drop below -20 degrees in the morning.

On Monday, the sky is expected to be overcast, with snow in many regions, and daytime temperatures will rise to -4 to -10 degrees.

Both this weekend and at the beginning of next week, a light eastern wind will blow.

Next week, warmer air will approach from the south, and the temperature in the cloud layer will rise faster than at the surface, which may lead to freezing rain, especially in the southern part of the country. At the same time, frosty weather will persist in Scandinavia, Finland, and the northern part of Russia; in Latvia, a shift in wind to the north and a temporary drop in temperature are possible.

The amount of precipitation on working days next week in Latvia may reach 10–15 millimeters, which corresponds to about ten centimeters of freshly fallen snow.

According to the latest data from the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts, the deviation of the average air temperature from the norm in Europe next week is expected to range from -10 degrees in some areas of Norway to +6 to +9 degrees in some areas of the Balkans, Romania, Moldova, and Ukraine. Latvia will be on the border between cold and warm air.
