On Tuesday night and morning, temperatures across Latvia are expected to drop to as low as -24 degrees, meteorologists forecast.
In most parts of the country, thermometer readings will drop below -15 degrees, while in some coastal areas, they will fluctuate around -10 degrees. No precipitation is expected, but fog and hoarfrost may form in some regions. A light southern wind will blow, and calm weather is also anticipated.
From Monday evening until Tuesday morning, a yellow warning for severe frost will be in effect in the eastern part of the country, as announced by the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre.
During the day, the sun will shine, although cloudy weather without precipitation is expected in some areas of Kurzeme and northwestern Vidzeme. With a light wind and calm conditions, the air temperature in the middle of the day will fluctuate between -4 and -14 degrees.
Due to the frost and calm conditions, air quality will deteriorate in some places, especially in cities.
In Riga, a sunny Tuesday is expected, with a light southern wind. The air temperature in the morning will be -13 degrees in the city center and up to -21 degrees in the suburbs; during the day, it is expected to be around -10 degrees.
