These two swans were rescued from the ice in Spuņciems by our Alexander and Edvins. The male swan stayed close to the female swan. He was with her until the end, waiting for death. Yes, you read that right — he waited for death.
The female had a broken wing and could not fly. The male did not leave her side. He himself has one wing that does not unfold. At night, both lay helplessly on the ice, losing their last strength. They did not resist when they were taken away.
Both are very weak now. The female still cannot get up. The male is always by her side. He guards her.
They had been without food and water for a long time.
Now at Drauga Spārns, there is a real fight for lives every day. Winter is a cruel and harsh time for wild birds. Daily, we receive desperate pleas for help — swans in critical condition are taken off the ice and brought to us in an extremely emaciated state, on the brink of life and death.
