The construction management of the Kekava municipality has decided to completely prohibit the operation of the building damaged by the fire in the Krustkalns settlement, the municipality reported to the LETA agency.
This decision was made based on the results of the building inspection conducted by the construction management. Serious damage affecting its safety was identified in the house located at 5 Jaunlazdu Street.
During the inspection, it was established that the fire affected several apartments and the facade of the building, damaging load-bearing structures and ceilings, and part of the building was damaged by water as a result of firefighting efforts. Currently, the house is completely disconnected from gas, water, heating, and electricity supplies.
It is currently unsafe to be in the building, emphasizes the local government.
The building owners have been ordered to immediately organize a complete technical inspection of the structure so that a decision can be made regarding further actions and possible partial restoration of operation.
It was previously reported that the manager of the residential complex "Jaunlazdu mājas" is the company "Fortium.lv".
The Kekava municipality is in direct contact with the affected families and continues to provide necessary assistance, including accommodation and social support.
As previously reported, "Fortium.lv" has accommodated all residents of the affected house in other apartments. Some were offered vacant apartments in the "Jaunlazdu mājas" complex, while others were placed in other projects managed by the company, such as "Panorama Plaza".
When asked whether the affected building was insured, "Fortium.lv" responded affirmatively. The management company also indicated that smoke detectors were installed in all apartments.
The company had not previously commented on the possible restoration of the building, stating that a decision would be made after the investigation is completed.
It should be noted that as a result of the fire in a residential building in the Krustkalns settlement on Friday morning, two children died. As reported by TV3, a woman, who may be the mother of the deceased children, is in serious condition in the hospital. Her third child—a four-year-old girl, also injured in the tragedy—is currently being cared for by the medical staff of the Children's Clinical University Hospital.
The State Police have initiated a criminal process under the Criminal Law article on crimes against property, but have not yet put forward specific versions of the causes of the fire. More precise information may only emerge after the results of the examinations are received.
