The registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5%

At the end of last year, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5% of the economically active population, which is 0.2 percentage points higher than at the end of November, but 0.3 percentage points lower than at the end of 2024, according to information released by the State Employment Agency (SEA).

By the end of December 2025, a total of 43,672 unemployed individuals were registered with the State Employment Agency (SEA), which is 2,001 more than the previous month when 41,671 unemployed were registered; however, this is 2,881 less than at the end of 2024, when 46,553 unemployed were registered with the agency.

The lowest registered unemployment rate at the end of 2025 was still in the Riga region - 3.7% of the economically active population, which is 0.1 percentage points higher than at the end of November, while the highest registered unemployment rate remained in the Latgale region - 10.1%, which is 0.3 percentage points higher.

In December, the unemployment rate among regions increased most noticeably in Kurzeme - by 0.5 percentage points, reaching 5.5% of the economically active population by the end of the month.

In Zemgale, the registered unemployment rate at the end of December was 4.9% of the economically active population, which is 0.4 percentage points higher than the previous month, while in Vidzeme it was 4.6%, which is 0.3 percentage points higher compared to the end of November.

Over the year, the registered unemployment rate increased only in Kurzeme - by 0.1 percentage points, while it decreased most significantly in Vidzeme - by 0.8 percentage points.

In Zemgale, the registered unemployment rate decreased by 0.3 percentage points over the year, while in the Riga region and Latgale, the decrease was 0.2 percentage points.

At the end of 2024, the registered unemployment rate in Latvia was 5.3% of the economically active population, at the end of 2023 - 5.7%, at the end of 2022 - 6.1%, at the end of 2021 - 6.7%, at the end of 2020 - 7.7%, at the end of 2019 - 6.2%, at the end of 2018 - 6.4%, and at the end of 2017 - 6.8% of the economically active population.
