During this weekend, snow will fall in parts of Latvia, heavy blizzards are expected, and in the first half of next week, the wind will calm down and frost may intensify, meteorologists predict, writes LETA.
On Friday evening and Saturday night, heavy snowfall with blizzards is expected in Latgale and Selia, while on Saturday and Sunday, intense snow and blizzards may occur in parts of the western part of the country. From time to time, snow will also fall in other regions of Latvia.
On Saturday night, gusty winds will persist across the country. During the day, gusts of the northern and northeastern winds will calm down to 8–13 meters per second, while along part of the coast, gusts will remain up to 19 m/s, and on Sunday, the northern wind will reach 16 m/s only in some areas along the Kurzeme coast.
Air temperatures in Kurzeme will mainly range from -3 to -8 degrees, while in the eastern part of Latvia, they may drop to -12 to -15 degrees at times.
In the first half of next week, weak winds or complete calm are expected, so as the clouds disperse, air temperatures will drop quickly during the dark hours and may fall below -20 degrees in some places. In the second half of the week, similar frosts are possible in Latgale and eastern Vidzeme. However, if cloud cover persists, there will be no severe frost.
