The film 'Lotus' received the most nominations for the 'Great Kristaps'

36 films out of 85 submitted received nominations for the national film award 'Great Kristaps 2025', with the feature film 'Lotus' directed by Signe Birkova receiving the most nominations — 16, reported LETA by the award's representative Inga Zalite.

The 'Great Kristaps' award for contribution to the art of cinema will be awarded to Latvian stuntman, stunt coordinator, educator, and founder of the professional stunt movement in Latvia and the Baltics, Uldis Janis Veispals.

The film 'In the Net. The Birth of the Legend TTT' directed by Dzintars Dreiberga received 13 nominations, including for Best Film and Best Feature Film. Also competing for Best Film and Best Feature Film is the work of director Armands Zacs, 'Eternally Young', which received a total of ten nominations.

The film 'Imprints' directed by Alise Zariņa received ten nominations, while the animated film 'God's Dog' by the Abele brothers is nominated in eight categories. The feature film 'Dark Blue Gospel' directed by Oskars Rupenheits also received eight nominations. The work of director Krista Burāne 'All Birds Sing Beautifully' is nominated for the 'Great Kristaps' award in seven categories.

The documentary film 'Artworks Are Born in Pain' directed by Elizabete Gritsmane received five nominations, while the documentary 'Scarecrows' directed by Laila Pakalniņa and the short film 'Purity' directed by Andris Brivulis each received four nominations.

The animated film 'In the Garden of Oblivion' directed by Anete Grinberga is nominated in three categories. The second season of the co-production project 'Detective von Fox', the documentary 'Frankenstein 2.0' directed by Davis Simanis, and the documentary 'The Testament' directed by Janis Abele also received three nominations.

The documentary 'Reaching Depth' directed by Karlis Bardelis, the short film 'Cultural Palace' directed by Rudolf Gedinsh, the co-production film 'Lioness', the short film 'Judgment Day of Dust' directed by Alvina Jansone, and the work of director Aivars Shaicens 'Sludge' are competing for the 'Great Kristaps' award in two categories.

The national film award 'Great Kristaps' will be presented on March 1 at the Riga Congress House. During the awards ceremony, the achievements of Latvian cinema will be celebrated in 25 categories, and the award for contribution to the art of cinema, the audience award, and other special awards will also be presented.
