On Tuesday morning, snow and ice complicate movement on state main and regional highways in many areas of Kurzeme, Latgale, and central Latvia, according to summarized information from the State Joint Stock Company "Latvian State Roads" (LVD), reports LETA.
Around 6:40 AM, traffic is difficult in the vicinity of Riga and in Zemgale on all major highways, except for the Bauska road.
In Kurzeme, major roads are slippery in the areas of Liepaja and Kuldiga, while in the northern and eastern parts of the historical region, conditions on the main roads are satisfactory; however, problems may arise on local roads.
In the central part of Vidzeme — in the area of Cesis, Valmiera, and Smiltene — traffic on major roads is not problematic, but the situation worsens to the east. In the vicinity of Gulbene and in Latgale, the main roads are mostly snow-covered and slippery. Traffic is also difficult on the Daugavpils highway and along the entire length of the Tīnūži-Koknese road.
On Tuesday morning, 113 units of winter equipment are involved in clearing and treating snow-covered and slippery sections of the roads.
