On Friday morning, due to the blizzard, particularly challenging driving conditions have developed on state highways and regional roads in the vicinity of Madona, reports Latvian State Roads.
According to the company, blizzards and icy conditions across the country are worsening travel on main and regional roads.
Slippery and snow-covered sections are being cleared and treated with anti-skid materials. To improve the situation, 159 units of winter service equipment have been engaged in road maintenance work.
Traffic is difficult on regional roads throughout Latvia, with the exception of the Balvi area. Work is being carried out as a priority, primarily on the busiest routes.
LVC urges drivers to take weather conditions into account when planning trips, to allow extra time for travel, to adjust speed according to road conditions, and to maintain a safe distance.
