On Thursday morning, due to icy conditions and snow, movement is difficult in many areas of Kurzeme, Zemgale, and Latgale on state main and regional roads, the LETA agency was informed by the State Joint Stock Company "Latvijas Valsts ceļi" (LVC).
Slippery sections of roads are treated with anti-skid materials. To improve traffic conditions, 88 units of winter service equipment are involved in road maintenance work.
Difficult traffic conditions on state main roads are observed on the section of the Vidzeme highway from Vireši to Veclīčene and from Strenči to Valki, on the Riga bypass road, on the Daugavpils highway, as well as on the section of the Bauska highway from the Kekava bypass road to Dzimtmisa. A similar situation has developed on the Jelgava highway, on the section of the Liepāja highway from Riga to the Apšupe intersection and from Mazblidene to Kalvene, as well as on the section of the Ventspils highway from Riga to Kudra and from Strazde to Usma.
Caution should also be exercised on the Rēzekne highway, the road "border with Russia — Rēzekne — Daugavpils — border with Lithuania," on the Daugavpils bypass road, Rēzekne bypass road, and the Tīnūži—Koknese highway.
On regional roads, traffic is difficult in the vicinity of Riga, Liepāja, Kuldīga, Saldus, Talsi, Tukums, Dobele, Jelgava, Bauska, Valki, Alūksne, Aizkraukle, Jēkabpils, Madona, Preiļi, Rēzekne, Ludza, Daugavpils, and Krāslava.
LVC urges drivers to take weather conditions into account when planning trips, to allow extra time for the journey, to choose a speed appropriate to the condition of the road surface, and to maintain a safe distance.
