Income Below the Threshold: The Number of Low-Income Residents in Latvia Calculated

At the end of October this year, there were 37,996 people in Latvia with low-income status, which is 4.8% less compared to the end of October 2024, according to information provided by the Ministry of Welfare, reports LETA.

At the end of November, there were 18,553 people in the country with low-income status. This is 10.4% less than at the end of November last year.

The income threshold for recognizing a household as low-income is 50% of the median income. In 2025, this threshold for the first or only member of the household is set at 377 euros, and for other household members — 264 euros.

In turn, each municipality has the right to set the income threshold for recognizing a household as low-income at no more than 80% of the median income, but not lower than the income threshold for a low-income household.

The maximum income threshold for a low-income household in the case of the first or only member is 604 euros, and for other members — 423 euros.
