During Christmas week, it will get colder in Latvia, but this will not last long and no significant snow cover will form, predicts the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Center.
In the first half of the week, a colder air mass will move into Latvia from the northeast. As a result, frosts are expected for a couple of days — in the eastern regions, the thermometer may drop to -8…-10 degrees during the dark hours. Since the weather will mostly remain dry, there will be no significant snow cover formation.
On Monday, the sky will be predominantly cloudy. Precipitation — rain and wet snow — is expected only in the eastern regions of the country at night, while during the day, rain clouds will appear in other areas as well. A weak to moderate northwestern, western wind will blow. Both the minimum air temperature at night and the maximum during the day will be between 0…+6 degrees.
On Tuesday, the sky will gradually clear from the northeast, so local precipitation — mainly wet snow and snow — is expected only at night. Ice may form on some sections of the roads. Also, fog will appear in places at night, reducing visibility. A weak to moderate eastern, northeastern wind will blow. Tuesday will be noticeably colder than earlier: the minimum temperature at night and the maximum during the day in the western part of Latvia will be +1…-4 degrees, while in the east it will be several degrees colder — -5…-10 degrees.
On Wednesday during the day and on Christmas Eve, the weather will be calm — cloudy, with no precipitation, and a weak to moderate westerly wind. However, even in the western regions of the country, where it was previously a few degrees warmer, the air will become colder: the minimum temperature at night across the country will be -3…-8 degrees, and during the day the air will warm up to -2…+3 degrees.
On Christmas days, no precipitation is expected in Latvia, but the sky will mostly be covered with clouds. On the night of December 25, in many places, the thermometer will drop below zero, but then, with the arrival of a warmer air mass into Latvia, the temperature will rise again and will mostly remain within 0…+5 degrees, according to the forecast of Latvian meteorologists.
