The Riga Social Service warns people about phone scammers offering to recalculate benefits or pensions, the LETA agency reported from the municipality.
On Thursday, eight people already contacted the service with information about scammers offering to recalculate benefits or pensions. The Riga City Council urges residents to be cautious.
Phone scammers call and say that a person needs a recalculation of benefits, pensions, or work experience. During the conversation, personal data is requested, such as personal code, bank account number, or other confidential information. If a person refuses to provide this information, the scammers offer to meet with a social worker at the address: Riga, Baznicas Street, 19/23, specifying a particular time, office, and name of the worker.
The Riga Social Service emphasizes that its employees do not call people to obtain personal data or to recalculate benefits, pensions, or work experience. People are warned not to disclose personal codes, authentication codes, or payment card details to strangers under any circumstances.
In case of doubt, residents should contact the Riga Social Service to verify the authenticity of the call at 67105048 or the Riga information phone 80001201.
The Riga Social Service urges people to be cautious and inform their relatives about such attempts at fraud.
