Influenza Incidence Continues to Rise

Influenza incidence and other acute respiratory infections continued to rise last week, reports the Center for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC).

Influenza has been clinically diagnosed in another 45 patients, which is 41.7% more than the previous week.

The highest incidence of influenza has been registered in Jelgava. Cases of influenza have also been reported in Valmiera, Riga, Jurmala, Rezekne, and Daugavpils.

The highest incidence of influenza has been recorded among children under 14 years old, while the greatest increase compared to the previous week was observed in the age group of 15-64 years.

Last week, 373 patients were examined for influenza in hospitals, including 10.2% or 38 confirmed cases of influenza A virus.

Twelve patients with pneumonia were referred to outpatient facilities over the week, averaging 17.3 cases per 100,000 population, which is 60.9% less than the previous week.

The proportion of positive tests for Covid-19 was 5.6%, slightly higher than the previous week's figure of 4.8%.

Last week, 30 patients with Covid-19 infection were admitted to hospitals. A total of 51 patients with confirmed Covid-19 infection were treated in hospitals last week, with 23.5% having it as the primary diagnosis.

Two cases of death among patients with confirmed Covid-19 infection were also recorded.

According to the CDC, this autumn in Europe, there is an earlier onset of influenza activity associated with the spread of a new strain.
