This morning, icy conditions in places in Zemgale and Latgale are hindering traffic on state highways and regional roads, reports the agency LETA, citing the company "Latvijas Valsts ceļi."
Slippery sections are being treated with anti-icing materials. To improve traffic conditions, 28 units of winter service equipment are involved in road maintenance work.
Traffic conditions are difficult on the Daugavpils highway (A6) from Nīcgale to Vecsaule, on the Jelgava highway (A8) from Dalbe to Eleja, on the Liepaja highway (A9) from Kagi to the Apšupe intersection, on the section of the road from the Russian border (Grebnevo) to Rēzekne to Daugavpils to the Lithuanian border (Medumi) (A13) from Špogi to Medumi, as well as on the Daugavpils bypass road (A14).
On regional roads, traffic is difficult in the vicinity of Liepaja, Ventspils, Talsi, Saldus, Jelgava, Daugavpils, Krāslava, Preiļi, Gulbene, Alūksne, Valki, Valmiera, Cēsis, and Limbaži.
Drivers are urged to take weather conditions into account when planning trips, allocate extra time for travel, choose speed according to road conditions, and maintain a safe distance.
