In Latvia, 20 temperature records were broken in one day

In the past day, at least 20 temperature records were broken in Latvia — eight records on November 13 and at least twelve records on November 14, according to data from the Latvian Environment, Geology and Meteorology Centre (LEGMC), reports LETA.

The highest air temperature on November 13 was recorded just before midnight in Mersrags — +12.4 degrees, which set a new temperature record for this date nationwide. The thermometer also exceeded +12 degrees in Kolka, Liepaja, Pavilosta, and Rucava.

After midnight, the highest air temperature reached +12.9 degrees in Riga, setting a new national temperature record for November 14. Local temperature records were broken in most regions of Kurzeme and Zemgale, and by morning, also in some areas of Vidzeme and Latgale.

On Friday morning, significantly cooler air moved into Latvia from the northwest — temperatures in many places dropped to +2 to +7 degrees, while in the southeast of the country, the air remains a few degrees warmer.

The wind is calming down, with stronger gusts persisting in Latgale in the morning. The strongest gusts over the past day were recorded overnight in the ports of Liepaja and Ventspils — 21 meters per second.

The sky is predominantly cloudy, with occasional brief rain showers. The air quality is good.

In Riga, after reaching +12.9 degrees overnight, it has become cooler — in the morning, the temperature hovers around +5 degrees. Overnight, wind gusts in the city center reached 15 meters per second, while in Daugavgriva, they reached 17 meters per second. In the morning, the north and northwest winds became weak, with a transition to a westerly direction expected.

The highest air temperature in Europe on November 13 was recorded in parts of Spain, France, and Cyprus — +26 to +27 degrees. The lowest temperature on the night of Friday was minus 15 degrees in Scandinavia.
