Today, the on-demand transport service will open in Alsunga, reported Laura Homka, a public relations specialist for the Kurzeme Planning Region, to the LETA agency.
The ceremonial event will take place at 14:00 at the Alsunga Cultural Center with the arrival of the first passengers of the on-demand transport.
The service will be offered in pilot areas — in Alsunga and Vane, becoming the first such solution in the Kurzeme region.
The local government explains that trips will be organized on demand, and they can be ordered both by phone and through the Freelway app. The service will be available daily, except on public holidays, and can be used by both local residents and visitors in the pilot areas. From Alsunga, one can travel to Kuldiga and Jurkalne and back, and from Vane — to Kandava and Sabile and back.
At the same time, as part of the project, the Freelway app is being implemented and tested, which will help not only to order the service but also to connect nearby passengers and drivers, ensuring convenient organization of shared rides.
The project's activities are being implemented with the support of the Central Baltic Program for 2021–2027.
