The union of architectural firms "Mailītis arhitekti" and "Mark arhitekti" continues to work on the national concert hall project, writes Diena.
The concept of the reconstruction of the House of Congresses proposed by them took first place in the international sketch competition.
It is still unknown how much the construction of the concert hall will cost, the start of which is planned for 2027. There is also the possibility of redesigning the underground parking lot of the hall to adapt it as a shelter, which will require an additional 700,000 euros.
The concert hall "Riga Philharmonic" will be located in the area of the state significance urban planning monument - the Riga Boulevard Ring by the city canal. The project envisages taking advantage of this location, restoring the area and historical green spaces on the square side from Kronvalda Boulevard and Valdemara Street. New bicycle parking spaces are planned to be created here, along with benches, informational and landscape objects, as well as terraces from the square and canal side for cafes, restaurants, and other public functions, which will help to revitalize this part of the city, architect Austris Mailitis said at a meeting of the Saeima Education, Culture and Science Committee.
The philharmonic will have three halls - a large, a small, and a multifunctional one. The large hall, designed for 1,300 spectators, will host symphonic, organ, and chamber concerts. To ensure that the space meets high standards, the designers are collaborating with specialists from the Latvian National Symphony Orchestra, "Latvijas koncerti", and technical and artistic directors of other ensembles.
