Thus, in total, the initiative has already been supported by more than 40,000 people.

Meanwhile, under another initiative, which calls on the parliament not to denounce the convention and has already been submitted to the Saeima, more than 29,000 people have signed.

As explained by the author of the appeal to President Linda Auzin, the president can exercise her right under Article 71 of the Constitution not to proclaim the law adopted by the Saeima on Latvia's withdrawal from the Istanbul Convention and to submit it for reconsideration to the Saeima or to a referendum. This will ensure a thorough and democratic examination of this issue, which affects human rights and the reputation of the state.
