At the end of last year, the cost of maintaining one inmate reached 57.32 euros per day, which is 57.5% more than in 2017, according to information provided by the Central Administration.
This means that Latvia spends over 1,700 euros per month on one inmate, while the average net salary in the country is 1,342 euros.
At the same time, compared to the end of 2023, the cost of maintaining one inmate has increased by 3.26 euros, or 6%.
At the end of last year, there were a total of 3,505 inmates in Latvia.
