One of the initiatives provides for the return of taxes for the purchase of prescription medications.
The portal manabalss.lv continues to collect signatures for a number of very relevant legislative initiatives. For instance, the initiative for the state to pay for a range of modern and, importantly, effective medications has already gathered nearly 8,000 signatures. Essentially, it proposes to significantly expand the list of medications reimbursed by the state. Notably, the authors of another initiative are calling for the return of overpaid taxes to also include prescription medications, alongside healthcare and education. Latvians are also signing another 'medical' proposal regarding the allocation of 150 euros by the state to pensioners for dental care.
Interestingly, although the initiative to grant residents the right to choose their savings in the second pension level has already been submitted to the Saeima and referred to the budget committee, people continue to sign in support of it. Currently, more than 25,000 signatures have been collected.
Often, certain initiatives arise as a response to other initiatives. Initially, an initiative was posted on the manabalss.lv portal to grant the right to hunt bears to regulate their numbers in Latvian forests. Soon, in contrast, a 'counter' initiative appeared calling for the prevention of permits to hunt bears. The first initiative, however, is currently more popular, having been supported by 4,722 Latvians, while only 1,018 people have signed the initiative to protect bears.
