A viewer of the "Bez Tabu" (TV3) program, Elena, decided to visit her family doctor at the Sarkandaugava Health Center. Upon finding herself about 100 meters from the medical institution, she realized that the further path posed a danger to her health and life.
In front of it, a vast construction site opened up: there were fences, construction machinery, and workers everywhere. Work is underway around the center to create a transport interchange hub. However, many residents are getting lost in this chaos and wandering through the construction area near the special equipment.
"If you approach from the direction of Zageru Street, suddenly a fence appears in front of us. There are no signs on how to get to the clinic. The only option is to choose a spot with fewer holes and just walk forward," said Elena.
Even at the moment when the situation was being recorded by "Bez Tabu," several people were heading through the construction area towards the clinic.
"Getting to the clinic is an impossible mission. Safety and health are at risk. Are we waiting for someone to get hurt? I called the Riga City Council and the construction management — no one knows anything," the woman pointed out.
Elena also emphasizes that for about six months now, it has been impossible to drive to the medical institution.
The Riga City Council, on the other hand, proudly notes that construction work is progressing significantly faster than planned, and instead of May, as expected, they plan to complete it in November.
"Changes in traffic organization and the pedestrian route scheme have been agreed upon with the relevant institutions. Signs indicating the detour route have been placed in this area. Given that residents have questions, for example, on how to get to the clinic, we will discuss this situation with the builders to ensure maximum safety and install additional informational signs on how to reach the clinic," promised Riga City Council representative Tatiana Smirnova.
Residents are prohibited from moving through the construction zone — they need to find a safe detour.
Elena is also looking forward to the upcoming improvements in the area, but remains of the opinion that pedestrians have not yet been taken care of.
