Health on Credit - More Residents of Latvia Are Paying for Medical Services in Installments

In the Baltic countries, the option to receive medical services in installments is gaining popularity. What medical procedures in Latvia can be financed through credit?

Over the past three years, the volume of financing for medical services has increased by 88% in Lithuania, 216% in Estonia, and 330% in Latvia. The growth in Lithuania is relatively smaller because installment payments for medical services have already reached significant levels there, while in Latvia and Estonia, the potential for growth remains substantial.

At the beginning of this year, the average amount of financing for medical services in installments was 1,232 euros in Latvia, 988 euros in Estonia, and 2,080 euros in Lithuania. Clients most often choose a payment term of 12 months. The service is used not only for expensive medical procedures but also for relatively small amounts—around 100 euros.

As specialists explain, the volume of financing in Latvia is still not very large because medical service providers remain relatively conservative and are cautious about installment payment solutions. At the same time, Lithuanian medical institutions are much more willing to adopt new technological opportunities to make their services more accessible to clients.

In Latvia, installment payments are most often offered by ophthalmology and dental clinics, as well as by sellers of medical goods and assistive devices. This payment method is increasingly used in aesthetic medicine clinics as well—for paying for plastic surgery services and various beauty procedures.
