The security situation will become increasingly complex for us - Minister of the Interior Secretary

The security situation in the Baltics is rapidly complicating, and Latvia must be prepared for provocations from Russia, stated Saeima deputy and parliamentary secretary of the Ministry of the Interior Igor Raev, emphasizing the importance of learning from the experience of neighboring countries and seizing the initiative at the right moment.

Igor Raev emphasized in the TV24 program "Kārtības rullis" that the security situation in the Baltics is becoming increasingly complex and urged Latvia to be prepared for provocations from Russia, also drawing on the experience of neighboring countries.

"It is important to understand: the security situation in our region is not improving and will not improve; it will become increasingly complex because our neighbor to the east is what it is. We cannot do anything about it right now. But we can be ready for its challenges and actions," Raev stated.

As an example, he cited Poland, which closed its border during the "Zapad" exercises. This step, in Raev's opinion, was the right one. He noted that it is important to assess the specific situation: what position the state is in, what the opponent is doing, and to make appropriate decisions. "This is a situation in which it would be useful for us to seize the initiative so that [Putin] reacts to our actions. So that he understands: a provocation in this place will not succeed. And then let him think about what to do next," the deputy emphasized.
