The average age of residents of Latvia at the beginning of this year was 43.5 years, which is three months more than at the beginning of 2024, according to data from the Central Statistical Bureau.
The average age of women was 46.2 years, and for men, it was 40.3 years.
At the same time, the median age was slightly higher at 44 years, which is the same as at the beginning of 2024. Among women, the median age was 48 years, while among men, it was 41 years. The median age is a measure where half of the population is younger (or the same age), and the other half is older (or the same age).
The highest average age at the beginning of this year was in the Kraslava municipality at 48.5 years, while the lowest was in the Marupe municipality, where it was 35.2 years. The highest and lowest median ages were also in these municipalities, at 52 years and 37 years, respectively.
