Due to repair works, changes in train services towards Tukums will occur from today until October 16, the Joint Stock Company "Pasažieru vilciens" (PV) reported to the LETA agency.

The company indicated that during the specified period, the State Joint Stock Company "Latvian Railways" will begin the first phase of work on modernizing the electrified network on the Tukums line, which will affect passenger transportation.

The train schedule will change on the section from Dubulti to Sloka, and on the final segment of the route from the "Tukums I" station to "Tukums II," passengers will be transported by buses on certain trips.

Train services on the Riga – Dubulti and Dubulti – Riga routes will continue at the same intensity during the repair works — during peak hours, when passenger flow is highest, trains will run approximately every 15 minutes, and at other times — every 30 minutes.

The intensity of traffic on the section from Dubulti to Sloka in both directions will be reduced — from about two trips per hour to one. One trip on the Riga – Sloka route in both directions will be extended to the "Tukums I" stop.

PV also notes that the intensity of train services to Tukums will remain approximately at the same level, and the last three evening trips from Riga and the first three morning trips from "Tukums II" will, as usual, be serviced by electric trains along the entire route. At other times, electric trains will run to the "Tukums I" stop, where a bus will be waiting for passengers to take them to their final destination — the "Tukums II" station. In the opposite direction, the bus will transport passengers from the "Tukums II" stop to "Tukums I," where they can continue their journey by electric train to Riga. Tickets purchased for the train will be valid for the trip.

PV notes that the repair works will take place in several phases, and the restrictions on train services will vary in each phase. The schedule may change depending on the progress of the works; however, all changes will be promptly communicated to passengers.

As reported to the LETA agency by representatives of the State Joint Stock Company "Latvian Railways" (LDz), currently, most of the railway contact network exceeds its technical service life. To promote a change in the population's travel habits, LDz is working on modernizing the electrified network.

As part of the project for the modernization and development of the electrified railway network, reconstruction works on the contact network and signaling subsystems are planned on the sections Riga – Zemitani, Zasulauks – Baldone, and Imanta – Sloka.

Under the project implementation, railway lines with a total length of about 100 kilometers will be electrified and modernized.

During the second phase of construction works, which is tentatively scheduled from October 17 to November 5 of this year, train services will be closed on the section from Asari to Kemeri, and passenger transportation will be organized by buses on this segment. Also, during this period, trains will run less frequently.

The modernization of the contact network from Imanta to Sloka on the Tukums line is planned to be completed in the first half of 2026.

The Joint Stock Company "Pasažieru vilciens" was established in 2001 by separating internal passenger transport from the functions of "Latvian Railways." Previously, PV was a 100% subsidiary of "Latvian Railways," but in October 2008 it was transformed into a state enterprise.

LDz is the managing body of the public railway infrastructure and the parent company of the LDz group.
