Famous television and radio journalist Arnis Krauze told the magazine "Kas Jauns" that he studied the genealogy of Maestro Raimonds Pauls.
He reported that Raimonds Pauls' sister — textile artist Edīte Pauls-Viņgere, who has already passed away, asked him to investigate the origins of the Pauls family, "because she heard something about the Germans."
"And it turned out that one of the branches of the Pauls family comes from the former Prussia, the territory of which is now mostly in Poland. Moreover, Maestro's grandfather's sister even had a note in her passport — 'German'," said Arnis Krauze.
Interestingly, a few years ago in an interview with gazeta.fi, the maestro admitted that his grandmother was Russian: 'I only recently learned from documents that my grandmother was Russian. I knew she was Orthodox, but I didn't know she was Russian.'
