The International Olympic Committee has approved a new, strict policy limiting the participation of transgender athletes in women's categories, which has sparked a wave of discussions and become one of the most significant decisions in the history of the Olympic movement.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) has made a historic decision by introducing a new, uncompromising policy: transgender athletes are now prohibited from participating in women's competitions at the Olympic Games. This statement, published on the organization's official resource, came as a thunderbolt for many. The right to compete in women's events at the Olympic Games or any other IOC events is now granted only to biological women, as clearly and unequivocally emphasized in the statement. These new rules, which the committee claims are designed to ensure the highest degree of fairness, safety, and integrity in the world of elite sports, will take effect starting with the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. It is important to note that they will not have retroactive effect and will not impact mass or amateur sports.

IOC President Kirsty Coventry emotionally commented on this epoch-making innovation: "As a former athlete, I firmly believe in the right of all Olympians to compete in fair competitions. The policy we have announced is based on scientific data and developed by medical experts. In the Olympic Games, even the slightest difference can determine the outcome of competitions. Therefore, it is absolutely clear that it would be unfair for biological men to compete in the women's category. Moreover, in some sports, it is simply unsafe.

Scandals at the 2024 Olympics: Background of the Decision

It is worth mentioning that heightened attention to the issue of transgender athletes' participation in women's competitions flared up after the events of the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris. The scandal centered around boxers Iman Helif and Lin Yuting. Both athletes were disqualified by the International Boxing Association (IBA) at that time, as they failed to pass a gender test and, according to laboratory data, had XY chromosomes. However, due to a sharp conflict between the IBA and the IOC, the results of this disqualification were not recognized, and the boxers were still allowed to enter the ring. Ultimately, both athletes sensationally won gold medals, which sparked a storm of outrage and widespread public resonance. Many influential figures, including Donald Trump, Elon Musk, and J.K. Rowling, criticized the situation.
