In recent years, the artist has repeatedly made racist and anti-Semitic comments.
The mayor of Marseille, Benoît Payan, stated that rapper Kanye West is "undesirable" to perform at a concert scheduled at the "Vélodrome" stadium on June 11.
The mayor of Marseille, the second-largest city in France, does not want the American rapper Kanye West to even come close to it.
Benoît Payan opposed West's visit after the notoriously controversial singer announced a concert at the "Orange Vélodrome" stadium on June 11 - the only scheduled performance in France.
In a message posted on X, Payan stated: "I refuse to allow Marseille to become a showcase for those who promote hatred and shameless Nazism. Kanye West has no place at the 'Vélodrome,' our temple of peaceful coexistence for all Marseillais," said the current mayor and candidate for re-election on X.
Payan is not alone in his desire. The Representative Council of Jewish Institutions of France (CRIF) believes that hosting "a person who has expressed admiration for Hitler raises serious moral questions.
Previously, West's Australian visa was canceled, and he was threatened with immediate arrest in Brazil.
In recent years, West has repeatedly made racist and anti-Semitic comments. It has come to the point where he posted a photo of a KKK robe, retracted his previous apologies to the Jewish community, declared himself a "Nazi," and claimed that he "rules over his wife." West also began selling T-shirts featuring swastikas and released a song titled "Heil Hitler," in which he praised the Nazi leader.
In January 2026, the singer apologized in a letter published in the Wall Street Journal, stating that he had "lost touch with reality" and that his behavior was caused by bipolar disorder - a condition he had previously denied.
