Three dietary principles help regulate gut function.

Gastroenterologist Anastasia Gostrous revealed three dietary principles that help regulate gut function so that one can go to the bathroom on schedule.

According to the doctor, to train the gut for stability, fiber, water, and beneficial bacteria are needed. She identified oatmeal, dried fruits, especially prunes and figs, beets, as well as flaxseed or psyllium as the best sources of fiber. Kefir and unsweetened yogurts are beneficial for gut microflora, the specialist added.

Gostrous also emphasized that water plays a key role. If one consumes more fiber without drinking water, it can lead to constipation. According to the gastroenterologist, to improve digestion and bowel movements, it is also important to eat at the same time each day.
