Fear and negative thoughts about age accelerate aging.

Aging is influenced not only by lifestyle but also by how a person thinks. This was stated by Carol Easton, the CEO of the Center for Improving Aging Quality, in an interview with HuffPost.

Easton shared that nearly one-third of people fear losing their physical health as they age, one in five fears a decline in cognitive functions, and about a quarter fear losing their independence. According to the expert, these fears and negative thoughts accelerate aging.

Another unexpected factor that brings aging closer, Easton mentioned, is the stereotype about age. She explained that people who are considered old by those around them do indeed start to age faster. "Many believe that at 58–60 years old, people are frail, although in reality, only one in ten people over 65 is physically weakened. Nevertheless, the constant negative perception of aging creates anxiety, undermines self-confidence, and turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy," Easton stated.

The specialist added that the fear of aging is particularly harmful to women. According to her, their anxiety about future health can accelerate biological aging more significantly.
