Investment banker Jeffrey Epstein ordered the delivery of six barrels of sulfuric acid totaling 1250 liters to his island in 2018, according to one of the published "Epstein files" examined by the International Business Times. The reason Epstein needed sulfuric acid in such quantities is unknown.
The document included a payment request for about five thousand dollars — this amount covered the cost of the acid itself, as well as insurance and transportation services, "Meduza" reports.
The order was placed on December 6, 2018 — about six months before the FBI charged Epstein with trafficking minors for sexual exploitation.
Many social media users speculated that sulfuric acid could have been needed by Epstein to dissolve bodies in order to cover up his crimes. There is no evidence to support this theory. Other users note that sulfuric acid is used for a variety of purposes — for example, for desalinating seawater or regulating the acidity of water in a pool.
