Our groundbreaking project brings together incredible creative talents.

Netflix has ordered a series script from YouTube Shorts star Alan Chikin Chow, creator of "Alan’s Universe." According to the streaming service, the "revolutionary project," the title of which has not yet been disclosed, is being created with the participation of Netflix, Chow himself, and Hybe America (the American division of the Korean music and entertainment company Hybe). The show will take place in the world of K-pop.

According to the description, Chow's series "will tell the story of a diverse team of failed pop idol candidates who enroll in an arts academy and come together to form a group." Chow first announced the project earlier this year as part of a new partnership with Hybe America. At that time, the project, titled Hybe America x AU, was described as an unparalleled label. Its central element was the casting of "versatile artists" who would join Chow in a new mixed pop group and also become his partners in a series about the group on his YouTube channel. Now, this show will be released not on YouTube, but on Netflix.

Netflix already has a huge success with Kpop Demon Hunters – a project that became not only a streaming hit but also a musical sensation. Similar to this film, which spawned hit singles like Golden, Chow's series will release original music alongside the episodes. Hybe, in turn, contributes to the K-pop field as the company behind BTS, Katseye, and other groups.

Chow will serve as the executive producer of the series alongside James Shin, president of Hybe America, and Jing Zhang, president of Hybe America AU and former vice president of BigHit Music. It is still unknown who will direct and who will write the script – whether it will be Chow himself or another writer.

"Our groundbreaking project brings together incredible creative talents from Netflix and Hybe America to launch a fundamentally new franchise for the next generation. Together with world-class teams that are constantly shaping culture on a global scale, our mission is to set a new standard of storytelling aimed at inspiring, bringing joy, and teaching timeless life lessons," Chow stated.

Shin promised that he would present a culturally defining model of how pop groups are created. "With such an experienced strategist and creative visionary as Alan, we intend to create a revolutionary series that will expand the audience, opportunities, and show new ways of forming fandom from day one," Shin added.

Details about the status of the global casting, which sought three boys and three girls to work with Chow, are also not yet available. The plan was for the selected participants to undergo a kind of K-pop boot camp – a training program in Los Angeles that combines Chow's "expertise in content creation" with Hybe's training system.

Chow is the creator of the anthology "Alan’s Universe" about school life, which has nearly 100 million subscribers and over a billion views per month. Last year, he was recognized as one of the leading content creators by Forbes, Time, and other publications. In November 2024, he opened a 10,000-square-foot production studio in Burbank, where all work on the series is currently taking place.
