James Cameron's film 'Avatar: Flame and Ash' has earned over $1 billion at the global box office, according to Walt Disney Co.
It is noteworthy that $400 million was spent on the production of the film.
As for the box office, over the past weekend, the third installment of the franchise earned $40 million in theaters in the U.S. and Canada, surpassing the second 'Zootopia' ($19 million).
The animated film 'Zootopia 2', also produced by Disney, has earned $1.59 billion worldwide in six weeks and climbed to second place on the list of the highest-grossing animated films in history. It is only behind the 2019 remake of 'The Lion King' ($1.66 billion).
The third place in the North American box office was taken by the thriller 'The Maid' starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried ($14.9 million), while the fourth place went to the sports drama 'Marty the Magnificent' featuring Timothée Chalamet in the lead role ($12.6 million). Rounding out the top five is the comedy 'Anaconda' ($10 million).
According to Comscore, box office revenues in the U.S. and Canada reached $8.9 billion in 2025. This is 2% higher than the previous year but 20% lower than the pre-pandemic year of 2019.
