Gwyneth Paltrow and Jennifer Lopez agree that periodic breaks from social media are necessary. The stars participated in a roundtable discussion hosted by the Los Angeles Times The Envelope, dedicated to actresses nominated for an Oscar in 2025. Along with them, Emily Blunt, Tessa Thompson, Elle Fanning, and Sydney Sweeney were also invited to the event. During the conversation, Paltrow and Lopez shared their approaches to combating negativity online and offensive reviews of their work.
"I try to never read anything about myself. Period. Never. And period," said Gwyneth Paltrow, who plays one of the lead roles in the new film 'Marti the Magnificent.' Lopez, who starred in the musical 'Kiss of the Spider Woman,' asked Gwyneth, "Wait, nothing about yourself? Never? Because I also don’t read reviews of my films! But sometimes people write good things about them, and then you think, 'Oh, great!'" Paltrow responded, "Sometimes I come across it," and Lopez jokingly added, "And you want to die." Gwyneth agreed with her colleague and added that she used to try to avoid various comments about herself online, but it became increasingly difficult each year. "For example, when someone sends me a link to something awful about myself and says, 'Oh, what nonsense.' I try to avoid that. I just deleted my social media accounts," Paltrow shared.
